This is because instead of attending to the physical needs of patients as most registered nurses do, psychiatric nurses take care of patients' mental health. They work specifically with conditions such as addiction, depression, dementia, and anxiety.

In the United States, you can find psychiatric nurses in a variety of different settings like prisons, schools, psychiatric hospitals, and outpatient mental health clinics. In these places, they are usually responsible for providing mental health treatments, counseling, educating patients and their families about medications, and monitoring the patient's progress.

To be a psychiatric nurse, you must have a Bachelor’s or an Associate’s degree in nursing. Also, you must be a licensed registered nurse with professional certification. Also, you should have at least two years of experience in the field.

Utilization Review Nurse is one of the most unusual nursing jobs you’ll find anywhere. They are not seen on the front lines of the nursing profession. Instead, they work behind the scenes to monitor the use of hospital services, ensuring optimal use of healthcare resources, and maximizing efficiency. They are responsible for making sure that healthcare facilities aren’t overstretching their resources and conducting routine audits.

Another unusual nursing job is wound care ostomy and continence nursing. They deal with serious wounds that involve skin breakdowns such as burns, bedsores, etc. These nurses can work in home health care systems, hospitals, and nursing homes.

Nursing informaticist is one of the most well-known but unusual nursing jobs available. They are good in information technology and use their computer science knowledge to improve healthcare technology and efficiency.

To become a nursing informaticist, you will need to at least go through an online RN to BSN program. Also, you need to be a licensed RN and have some experience working in the field.

The job of a nursing informaticist comes with a high income and it is pretty engaging.
